Despite the natural beauty of White Beach, it experienced numerous environmental issues brought by hyper-commercialization and over-tourism. Thankfully, the Duterte Administration took this seriously and closed the island last April 26, 2018 - October 26, 2018, to address the building and sewage system violations.

Boracay Island, particularly White Beach, underwent a massive clean-up. Around 400 hotels and restaurants were closed in violation of the local environmental laws. Establishments within the 30-meter shoreline easement were also demolished.

My daughter seems to be enjoying the clean powdery sand beach. |
I got to revisit White Beach in Boracay Island last February 2020 when we celebrated my daughter's 7th birthday. We were lucky to be able to visit Boracay Island a few weeks before the COVID19 lockdown was implemented nationwide.

During our visit, it was evident that the COVID19 scare was already creeping throughout the country. Many tourists canceled their bookings and most of the hotels including the hotel that we checked in were only 20% booked according to the hotel staff that I got to interview at that time. What's good about this was that White Beach was less crowded, something that rarely happens.
White Beach Entrance Fee:
It's FREE to enter, explore, and enjoy the beautiful White Beach if you are already on Boracay Island. However, visitors need to pay an environmental fee of 150 PHP (Filipino tourists), 300 PHP (foreign visitors) to enter Boracay Island.
Why visit White Beach?
Overall, with the government's effort to rehabilitate Boracay Island and probably the lockdown caused by the pandemic, the island, particularly White Beach would surely have time to heal making it one of the top places in the Philippines that you must visit after this pandemic.
