J & A Fishpen is not your ordinary restaurant it is known in Camiguin as the floating restaurant. It is located in Taguines Lagoon in the municipality of Mahinog, in the island province of Camiguin, Philippines.

J&A Fishpen (Camiguin's Floating Restaurant)

Found in the western banks of Taguines Lagoon, J & A Fishpen was formerly used as a fishpond but was eventually converted into a floating restaurant. What's nice about this resto is the fact that you are sure about the freshness of the fish. You could even catch the fish from the fish pens in the vicinity and have it cooked in any way you want it.

During our stopover in J & A Fishpen, my wife and I admired the beautiful ambiance of the restaurant. I also enjoyed feeding the fish with some of my leftover food. Well, I'm not sure if that's allowed but nobody stopped me, so I fed them to my heart's content.

Imagine eating while your feet are cooled by the water from the lagoon

If you walked a lot, then the cold water of the lagoon would cool and soothe your tired muscles.

Tourists would surely love the place because aside from the floating resto, you would also enjoy the view of Taguines Lagoon (nope, not as the backdrop for the floating resto though). You would love its view while you're riding the two-way zipline in the area. Though I haven't actually experienced it. The guys who tried it did surely have a great time after their ride.

Going around Taguines Lagoon

Just so you know Taguines Lagoon is actually a man-made lagoon. Our guide even said that it was actually made from the crater of an extinct volcano. (That explains its huge circumference.)

The place is a great location to relax after exploring Camiguin.

Overall, J & A Fishpen might not be a high-end restaurant but it offers a unique experience for those who would want to try a new dining experience. 

Getting to J& A Fishpen and Taguines Lagoon:

Option 1: By Air and Sea

Flight from Davao to Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan Airport):

Book a flight from Davao International Airport (DVO) to Laguindingan Airport (CGY) in Cagayan de Oro. Airlines like Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines operate flights on this route.

Transfer to Agora Terminal:

Upon arriving at Laguindingan Airport, take a taxi or a shuttle to the Agora Integrated Bus Terminal in Cagayan de Oro.

Bus from Cagayan de Oro to Balingoan Port:

From Agora Terminal, ride a bus bound for Balingoan Port. This bus ride takes approximately 2-3 hours.

Ferry from Balingoan Port to Benoni Port (Camiguin):

At Balingoan Port, board a ferry bound for Benoni Port in Camiguin. The ferry ride usually takes about an hour.

Option 2: By Land and Sea

Bus from Davao to Balingoan Port:

Take a bus from Davao City to Balingoan Port. This bus ride may take around 6-8 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

Ferry from Balingoan Port to Benoni Port (Camiguin):

After arriving at Balingoan Port, board a ferry to Benoni Port in Camiguin. The ferry ride usually takes about an hour.

Option 3: Combination of Air and Land Travel

Flight from Davao to Cagayan de Oro (Laguindingan Airport):

Follow the same steps as in Option 1 until you reach Laguindingan Airport.

Van or Bus from Laguindingan Airport to Agora Terminal:

Instead of taking a taxi, you can find vans or buses that operate between Laguindingan Airport and Agora Terminal.

Bus from Cagayan de Oro to Balingoan Port:

Proceed with the same steps as in Option 1.

Ferry from Balingoan Port to Benoni Port (Camiguin):

Follow the same steps as in Option 1.

In our case, we had a prearranged tour. We rented a multi-cab to tour us around the province for two days.
