Davao Del Sur: Jack's Ridge
Located in Shrine Hills, Matina, Davao City (an independent city) which is inside the province of Davao del Sur, Jack's Ridge is one of the popular dining resorts in the city.
What's unique about Jack's Ridge? Jack's Ridge is known for its commanding view of Davao City and Davao Gulf. This is the reason why during the Second World War, the Japanese Imperial Forces used the place as their headquarters and observation post. It was said that from there, they could see the American Army positions.
It is also said that the Japanese heavily fortified that position. They dug caves to hide from American reconnaissance planes. They also used the caves to store their ammunition and other war materials. The story goes that the Japanese also hid tons of gold and numerous other treasures that they looted from other countries in one of the said caves. To date, not a single treasure has been dug from the premises of Jack's Ridge.
Treasures or none, Jack's ridge itself could be considered as one of the treasures of Davao City. Today, Jack's Ridge offers tourists (and even treasure hunters) a completely new experience.
Having visited Davao City a number of times, I have only visited Jack's Ridge once. On first glance, I thought that it's just another Tagaytay Ridge minus the Taal Volcano. Well, of course, I was wrong.
Jack's Ridge is incomparable to any dining resorts in the country or abroad. It is surely unique in its own way. What I love about Jack's Ridge lies not only in its ambiance nor location but with the people who manage and work there. These people are one of the friendliest bunch that I have met in my adventures. I won't write down any personal anecdotes or whatever but instead, I want you to find out for yourself.

That's crazy. Liked this one. That Davao sign, is that made of shells or coral? It's pretty cool :)
ReplyDeleteThat's called a TAKLOBO, it's usually known as the giant clam. The crazy thing is it was found on top of a ridge. Whew.

DeleteDavao City is not part of Davao del Sur, administratively or geographically, since it is a highly urbanized city. This has been the case when Davao Province, with Davao City as capital, was divided into 3 separate provinces in 1967 and each had their own capitals. Thanks.

Hi there JAA. =)
DeleteThanks for the comment, I am well aware of it.
I'm just saying that Davao City is IN Davao Del Sur not a part of it. =)
Just like a shoe inside a box... The shoe is not part of the box but just inside it...
Other cases of these are Butuan City which is inside Agusan Del Norte and Isabela City which is inside Basilan. =)
Thanks again JAA for the info. =)
