Ibalong Festival

Location: Legazpi City, Province of Albay
Details: The festival is celebrated every 10th of August. Its highlight is the parade where the participants wear masks and costumes that depicts the heroes and villains in the epic story of Ibalong, aside from that the participants also portray the classic battles in the story. This festival aims to express warmth and goodwill to all people, locals, and tourists alike.

Paladong Festival

Location: Hinatuan, Province of Surigao del Sur
Details: The festival is celebrated every 28th of August. Its highlight is the art of performing the ritual called ladong. It is conducted by a landongan or a person who has the power and ability to cure as a medium to call the spirits and relay the wishes to the clients through an offering. This festival is a festivity of arts and rituals. The word paladong means to conduct a ritual called ladong.

Sabutan Festival

Location: San Luis, Province of Aurora
Details: The festival is celebrated every 21st to 25th of August. Its highlight is the native dance presentation of school children of the schools in San Luis. This festival is a way for the locals to show the importance of growing palm trees for their economic needs. The word sabutan is the local name for a palm tree.

Tsinelas Festival

Location: Gapan City, Province of Nueva Ecija
Details: The festival is celebrated every 25th of August. Its highlight is the parade of Tsinelas inspired floats. This festival is aimed to bolster the city's claim as the North Slipper's Capital. The word tsinelas means sandals.

Lubi-Lubi Festival

Location: Calubian, Province of Leyte
Details: The festival is celebrated every 15th of August. Its highlight is the cultural presentation where residents dance showcasing the importance of coconut trees to them. This festival is a way for the people of Calubian to promote their coconut products. The word lubi-lubi is a plant with the scientific name Solanum nigrum.

Padagyaw Festival

Location: Dumarao, Province of Capiz
Details: The festival is celebrated every 1st to the 5th of August. Its highlight is the colorful and well-rehearsed street dance. This festival is a way for the locals to show devotion to Nuestra Senora De Las Nieves. 

Palagsing Festival

Location: Butuan City, Province of Agusan del Norte
Details: The festival is celebrated every 2nd of August. Its highlight of this festival is a competition of the tastiest palagsing. The word palagsing is a local delicacy made from young coconuts and brown sugar.

Cabibi Festival

Location: Lal-lo, Province of Cagayan
Details: The festival is celebrated every 1st to the 4th of August. Its highlights are street dancing, trade fair, Balikbayan tribute, and many more. This festival is a patronal town fiesta of Lal-lo, the former capital of the province of Cagayan. The word cabibi means seashells.

Santones Festival

Location: Liliw, Province of Laguna
Details: The festival is celebrated every 12th to 16th of August. Its highlight is the delicious lanzones fruits that are raised in the town. This festival is a way for the locals to promote their primary fruit product. 

Coron Festival

Location: Tiwi, Province of Albay
Details: The festival is celebrated every 15th to the 17th of August. Its highlight is the clay pots which are used and made with much passion. This festival is a way for the locals to promote their pot-making skills. The word coron is a Bicolano word that means clay-pot or potteries.

Maliputo Festival

Location: San Nicolas, Province of Batangas
Details: The festival is celebrated every 9th of August. Its highlight is the street dancing parade showcasing the different concepts and themes of the maliputo fish. This festival is a way for the locals to showcase and promote the importance of maliputo to the people of San Nicolas. The word maliputo is the local name for the fish caramax ignobilis.

Guiling-Guiling Festival

Location: Siniloan, Province of Laguna
Details: The festival is celebrated every August. Its highlight is the street dancing participated by private and public schools from 20 barangays of the town to commemorate the foundation of the town of Siniloan. This festival is a one-day program that celebrates the foundation of the town. The word guiling-guiling means the action that one creates when they sway their hips round and round while they are grinding rice.

Kaumahan Festival

Location: Opol, Province of Misamis Oriental
Details: The festival is celebrated every 15th to 31st of August. Its highlights are the parade of farm products, agro and trade fair, cultural shows, and beautification of the town. This festival is a way of thanksgiving by the locals.

Manaragat Festival

Location: Catbalogan City, Province of Samar
Details: The festival is celebrated every 23rd of August. Its highlight is the colorful parade where dancers follow the beat of the drums. This festival is a way for the locals to honor St. Bartholomew who is said to maintain the richness and bountiful catch in Maqueda Bay. The word manaragat is a local word that means fisherman.

Pasaka Festival

Location: Tanauan, Province of Leyte
Details: The festival is celebrated every 14th of August. Its highlight is the cultural dance parade which welcomes the visitors. This festival is in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption. The word pasaka is a Waray word that means an invitation to progress and have a long healthy life.

Niyogyugan Festival

Location: Lucena, Province of Quezon
Details: The festival is celebrated every 18th -27th of August. Its highlights are the cultural dance parades, Bb. Niyogyugan, and the picturesque booths of each municipality that promotes its products. This festival is in honor of the coconut which is the main product of the province. The word niyog is a Filipino word that means coconut.

Embetsu Shrine Revisited Winter 2022

On August 12, 2022 , during my 41st week in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme , my family and I had the pleasure of visiting Embetsu Shrine for the first time as part of our five-day "Drive Up North" Road Trip . Later, on December 22, 2022 , I had the opportunity to revisit the shrine. What made this return visit particularly special was experiencing it during the winter season. Intrigued by how the shrine would be transformed by snow, I made the trip after finishing my duties at Embetsu Agricultural High School . Shoboji and Gifu Daibutsu - Gifu

Located in 8 Daibutsu-cho Gifu City in Gifu Prefecture, Shoboji ( 正法寺 )  is known as the temple which houses one of the three largest Daibutsu or Great Buddha statues in Japan . Shoboji   ( 正法寺 ) Shoboji and Gifu Daibutsu History Officially named Kinpouzan Shobouji (Temple) and also called Shohoji , Shoboji was first established in 1638. It joined the Obaku school in 1692.
