10 Tips for Google Local Guides

Now, since you're reading this part, it means that you are ready to learn what it takes to be a Google Local Guide.

Without further ado, here are the tips on how to be an awesome Google Local Guide:

Be an awesome Google Local Guide.

  1. Make sure that you have the 3 necessary requirements to become a Google Local Guide.. a smartphone or laptop, a stable internet connection, and of course a Google account.
  2. For smartphone users - Make sure that you have sufficient data for your internet service provider. The Google Maps app consumes data unless it is part of your unlimited data plan. (This tip is highly applicable to those living in the Philippines).
  3. Give "recent" reviews. You can give reviews to places that you have visited in the past but it would be better if it is a recently visited place especially if it is a business establishment as they tend to change and reinvent themselves often.
  4. Give reviews based on your personal experience. Never give one because you heard it from somebody. Also, keep in mind that your review can make or break a business. so keep your criticism to a professional level.
  5. Keep in mind that reviews are not tickets to free stuff. Hence, keep your review in a professional tone and avoid reviews that sound like you are worshiping the business or worse begging for freebies.
  6. Post quality photographs and videos. Avoid posting selfies, plane tickets, or anything that can be used to track you down. Safety should also be your concern.
  7. Keep an eye out for photos and reviews that are irrelevant or out of place. Report these immediately.
  8. Join a community event or meetups with fellow Local guides near you. Better yet host your own meet-ups or create your own Local Guide community in Google +.
  9. Be active in the Local Guides Connect. You'd get tips, updates, and tons of information there. You can also share your adventures there.
  10. Click the thumbs up/like the button to the helpful reviews that you come upon in Google Maps. Nothing beats a little pat on the back for any Google Local Guide.
As of 2020, I'm already a Google Local Guide Level 9
