One such food is the popular Filipino dessert -the Halo-Halo. Derived from the Filipino word halo which means "to mix".

The halo-halo is a mixture of shaved ice, various boiled sweet beans, and fruits. It is served in a tall glass or bowl topped with evaporated milk and finally a scoop of ice cream, leche flan, or ube.

The ingredients of the halo-halo vary depending on availability or location. The essential ingredients that are irreplaceable in the halo-halo are the shaved ice, sugar, gulaman, and fresh/evaporated milk. Common Ingredients for Halo-Halo:*
- cheese
- tapioca
- garbanzos
- jackfruit (langka)
- whole kernel corn
- boiled kidney beans
- sugar palm fruit (kaong)
- sweet potato (kamote)
- pounded crushed young rice (pinipig)
- coconut sport strings (macapuno strings)
*Note: Use only the ingredients that are available to you. No need to complete these. In some restaurants, they only use 5-6 ingredients.

In terms of the arrangement, most of the ingredients (fruits, beans, and other sweets) are placed first in the tall glass*, followed by the shaved ice. Then topped with either (or a combination of) leche flan, ice cream, ube, or langka. Lastly, the evaporated milk is poured into the mixture upon serving.
*Note: You could customize your container. In some places in the Philippines, the halo-halo is served in a coconut while in other places it's served in a bowl.
