Bicol Road Trip 2021: Day 11
Bicol Road Trip 2021: Day 11 |
Day 11: July 27, 2021
Guinobatan - Legazpi CityTrip
Good morning my dear readers. We're now on our 11th day here in Camalig, Albay. Since it's a Monday, there are several meetings and workshops scheduled for today. The good thing is, it is not as heavy as it was last week.
However, since last week was plagued with power outages, I decided to load up so that I can attend meetings using my cellular data today. With that, I invited my wife to join me hit the road and visit other destinations in Albay.
We left Casa Nicerio a little before 7AM. For our first destination, we headed to Camalig Bypass Road ukay-ukay and flea market. This market is open only every Tuesday and Friday, As expected, my wife really enjoyed this activity. We spent more than 2 hours here and my wife managed to buy a number of very good quality second-hand clothing, We also bought fruits like unripe bananas and different vegetables.
From there, my wife and I proceeded to the town of Guinobatan to visit its Spanish-colonial era church. Guinobatan Church is also called Our Lady of the Assumption Church. It was built sometime in 1680. The first time I visited this church was during our 2012 Bicol Visita Iglesia.
During this visit, I explored the church "more thoroughly", visiting parts that I missed during my first visit. I managed to go up to its belltower and was surprised to see that it was home to hundreds of bats. (You actually don't want to know what it smelled like in there).
Stop over, LCC Guinobatan |
Black Pepper - Camalig, Albay |
Lunch at Black Pepper |
Here's our lunch for the day |
Of course we ried the Bicol Express. |
After exploring the church, I drove my wife to LCC Guinobatan to buy some chips for our movie nights later. Since it's almost lunch, we decided to try out some local restaurants. We ended up at Black Pepper which is a roadside restaurant near the highway in Camalig. We ordered Bicol Express and adobo. The food was good, however, we wished that the owners present a menu rather than displaying the viands on an open-air food display table like a common carenderia.
From there, we drove going to Legazpi City. We did a quick photo op stop at the famous Sili Waiting Shed along the Pan-Philippine Highway in the municipality of Daraga. We then continued our drive and reached Lignon Hill. To enter and drive up the hill, we paid 25 pesos environmental fee per person.
Driving up to Lignon Hill |
Lignon Hill - Sadly, Mayon Volcano was not visible during our visit |
Bicol Airport as seen from Lignon Hill |
When we reached the top of the hill, I was saddened to see the state of Lignon Hill Nature Park. I first visited the place almost a decade ago and it looks very different now. It's like it was abandoned a long time ago. The zipline structure that I rode years back was now "reclaimed" by Mother Nature. Well, I understand that COVID happened but I wish they rehabilitate the place as it has huge tourism potential.
Time to drive down Lignon Hill |
Although the structures were "forgotten", the view remains to be one of the best in Albay. After enjoying the picturesque view, my wife and I drove to SM City Legazpi where I parked and set up my work area so that I could attend the meeting for my work today.
From there we wrapped up the 11th day of our 2021 Bicol Road Trip by driving back home and binge-watching Netflix before calling it a day.
