Lignon Hill - Albay

Located near Daraga-Legazpi Diversion Road in Legazpi City, Albay, Lignon Hill is a prominent hill that offers an amazing view of the city, Mayon Volcano, and Albay Gulf.

Lignon Hill details

Lignon Hill stands about 512 feet (156 meters). Since it's protruding on the flatlands of Legazpi City, it offers a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings. The closest to which is the Legazpi International Airport.

The hill is managed by the city and provincial government which designated it as a nature park. According to the books like "Transactions of the Seismological Society of Japan, Volumes 5-8" and "Geomorphology of the Mayon Volcano and its Relation to Hazards", Lignon Hill is mainly composed of dolerite and basaltic volcanic rocks which makes it a prehistoric cinder cone.

Welcome to Lignon Hill! Sadly, Mayon Volcano did not show herself to us today.

Because of its designation as a Nature Park, developments and renovations were done on the hill to make it a tourist attraction in 2006. The hilltop was leased to private companies under a memorandum of agreement with the Albay provincial government. During its heyday, there were several restaurants and souvenir shops on Lignon Hill. Coin-operated telescopes were also installed on the viewing deck and there is also a zipline for adventurous tourists which is considered its main tourist attraction.

The current state of the Lignon Hill zipline

Sadly, when we revisited it on the 11th day of our 2021 Bicol Road Trip, it was already in a sad state. Mother Nature seems to have started its goal of reclaiming the peak. Well, this is probably because of the current COVID 19 pandemic. Regardless, I do hope that the promenade and structures on its peak are still maintained even if there are very few tourists visiting it.

Overall, I'm still very hopeful that Lignon Hill Nature Park will return to its former glory or better and the local government finds new ways to improve it and draw in more tourists in the future.

Lignon Hill Entrance Fee

You need to pay an environmental fee of 25 pesos per person to be allowed entrance to the hilltop.

Lignon Hill Operating Hours

Lignon Hill is open from 8AM - 11PM

Why visit Lignon Hill?

As of this writing (2021), I don't encourage tourists to visit Lignon Hill. Heed this advice so that you'd be saved from wasted efforts and disappointments. Wait for the local government to rehabilitate the peak and announce that it is ready to welcome back tourists once again.

Getting to Lignon Hill

Lignon Hill is accessible by car. Drive going to Daraga-Legazpi Diversion Road and look for the small road beside the Albay Lignon Tennis Club. Follow it until you reach a fork near the registration area.

Pay the environmental fee and then continue straight. If you turn left it will bring you to a PHILVOLCs Station. It will take around 3 to 5 minutes by car to reach the peak depending on your speed.

  1. Hometown ng mama ko to. Malapit lang ang bahay nila sa Lignon Hill. Nakapunta na ako diyan pero maganda pa noon. May zipline pa. Nakakalungkot naman ang hitsura niyan ngayon.

    1. True. Nakabisita rin ako sa Lignon Hill more than a decade ago. I hope irehabilitate ng local government ang Lignon Hill and dagdagan pa ng facilities or restaurants in the future.
