Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima Details

The Oedo Onsen Monogatari Co. Ltd was founded sometime in November 2001. The company's aim was to operate onsen theme parks and bathing facilities. It opened its first onsen theme park in Odaiba, Tokyo in March 2003. Since then, the company has opened numerous other onsen theme parks around Japan. One of which is the Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima in Mie Prefecture.

The Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima is one of the five branches that opened in 2012. At present, it is one of the popular onsens in the Ise Shima region. Before the pandemic, it receives hundreds of guests per week.

I got to stay overnight in Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima with my Japanese family last January 11, 2022, which was my 71st day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme

Inside Room 601

We booked the ocean view Japanese-style room during our stay. So far, it has been the largest hotel room that I have seen in my life. The room had 2 tatami bedrooms sans the beds (there were futons instead).

The view of Ago Bay from Room 601

What I liked about the room was the view. It had a spectacular view of Ago Bay and the wharf of Hamajima. You can also see the hills on the other side of the bay. If you're lucky, you might be able to witness cormorants fishing in the waters.

This article won't be complete if we won't talk about Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima's onsen of course. It has an indoor and open-air bath. The water in the onsen is said to contain sodium chloride which is said to be effective against neuralgia and joint pain. Like most onsen in Japan, this place still adheres to the traditional practice of not allowing people with tattoos in their baths. Also, there are no such things as LGBTQ baths here so keep that in mind when you plan to visit.

Sweet shrimp! Yum!

Aside from the onsen, Oedo Onsen Monogatari Ise Shima is best known for its buffet food. The in-house restaurant here is called Mikuri. They serve buffet meals that change depending on the season but expect fresh fish or shrimp on the menu as those are the main products of the region.
