Japan Diaries 4: Week 26
Week 26: April 25 - 29, 2022
Day 175: April 25, 2022
Monday - Rumoi
It's the start of another week, and I'm back at Rumoi High School. The weekend flew by so quickly, and now it's time to dive into a new set of experiences and challenges. As I step onto the school grounds, the familiar surroundings and the buzz of students fill the air, signaling the beginning of another bustling week.
Here's my workload for today:
2nd period - ABCD Game @ 1-36 of Motoyama-sensei
3rd period - Digital Detox @ 4-46 of Matsuda-sensei
6th period - I'm the Strongest @ 2-345 of Hidaka-sensei
In the afternoon, Joshua and Kiaya went to my house for part 2 of the dinner party. This time, we had nabe. Kiaya introduced the game Farkle (which is a dice game where you need to rack up points based on the numbers you get from the dice.) Before calling it a day, we ate the dessert brought by our ALT friends.

It's final! Ella is now a Grade 4 student at Midorigaoka Elementary School |
After the 6th period, Matsuda-sensei accompanied me, my wife, and Ella to Midorigaoka Elementary School for Ella's enrolment. We got to meet Midorigaoka's Koucho-sensei and Kyoto-sensei as well as my daughter's adviser and some teachers.
That night, I attended the Rumoi English Chat Club. Our topic was "Spring Song and Poems".
Day 177: April 27, 2022
Wednesday - Haboro
It's my 1st time visiting Haboro High School for the school year 2022-2023. For this trip, I used my 1-day Moekko Free Ticket.
It's a very windy day today. In some ways, I can't focus on my work in the faculty room as the wind hitting the window beside me is literally howling out loud. I found out that Haboro High School has 6 new teachers and also a new Kouchou-sensei. Thankfully, all my JTEs stayed for another year.
Here's my workload for today:
3rd period - Essay writing about Bicycles @ 2nd year of Kawakami-sensei
4th period - Jiko Shokai of Students @ 3rd year of Watanabe-sensei
6th period - Jiko Shokai @ 1st grade of Kawakami-sensei
Day 178: April 28, 2022
Thursday - Rumoi
It's a beautiful sunny morning. I'm back at Rumoi High School today.
Here's my workload for today:
2nd period - Jiko Shokai @ 1-2 of Ito-sensei
5th period - Listening Activity @ 3-F1 of Matsuda-sensei
After lunch, there was a short faculty meeting where Kyoto-sensei announced that the PTA meeting tomorrow is canceled due to COVID-19 issues.
After the meeting, Matsuda-sensei helped me with the files for the Jido Teate or Child Allowance.
Day 179: April 29, 2022
Friday - Rumoi
Good morning everyone! It's Showa Day today. Supposedly, it is a holiday today but Rumoi High School decided to swap it with Monday so that our Golden Week holiday will be long and continuous.
Here's my workload for today:
1st period - A Paper Architect @ 3-35 of Matsuda-sensei
After the class, Matsuda-sensei helped me fill up the forms for Midorigaoka Elementary School so that my daughter can officially enroll in the school after Golden Week. During my lunch break, I biked back home and had lunch with my family.
That afternoon, Joshua came to our house to brief Ella about how life is in Midorigaoka Elementary School and also taught us a thing or two about Japanese elementary school culture. It's a big help as we got an idea of what we are about to face in the future.
Overall, it was a fulfilling workweek. Although I only visited Rumoi High School and Haboro High School this week, I could still share something with my JTEs. With that, I'm already looking forward to the weekend and also the Golden Week.
Congratulations on being accepted in Midorigaoka Elementary School Ella! I hope you enjoy Japan as a student.
