Chairumo details
Formally called Rumoi City Road Station Rumoi Indoor Exchange / Amusement Facility "Chairumo" (道の駅るもい 屋内交流・遊戯施設 ちゃいるも). opened to the public on the 29th of April 2022.
The facility was designed with the current municipal platform of Rumoi to be a place that nurtures the next generation. The play area is currently divided into 2 areas which are the Active Zone and the Creative Zone. These zones are designed to enhance the physical, psychomotor, and mental capacities of children. You can see it in the photo below.
Inside Chairumo
Although most of the space in Chairumo is designated as a play area, there is also a place for adults to enjoy like the souvenir shop Otaya Moedo no Eki Store and the Lumo Cafe. As for the parents of the kids, they get to enjoy bonding with their children in the play area and mind you their entrance fee is free.
Souvenir Shop inside Chairumo
My family and I got to visit Chairumo for the first time last May 29, 2022, which was my 209th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. I have seen this facility countless times during my bus trips in and out of Rumoi City and have always been intrigued by what it looked like. The facility was good. The facade is of course Instagram-worthy and the play areas were really designed for the kids to have lots of fun. I have never seen my daughter enjoy her time indoors like that. Overall, we'd surely try to visit this place frequently especially if we don't have any weekend travels lined up.
Chairumo Admission Fee
The play area inside Chairumo charges only 100 yen per child for a 90-minute playtime. However, they must be accompanied by a parent before entering. The good thing is that parents get free admission. Also please keep in mind that Chairumo is a place for elementary-aged kids to play and parents are there as guardians so please let us not "compete" with the children in using the play areas. Aside from that, you need to fill up a form and a disclaimer of liability before being allowed in.
Chairumo Operating Hours
Chairumo is open from 9:30AM to 5PM but the play area is open on three 90-minute courses per day which are:
Course 1 - 10AM - 11:30AM
Course 2 - 12:30PM - 2PM
Course 3 - 2:30PM - 4PM
The times in between are used for cleaning and disinfecting the play area.
Why visit Chairumo?
If you have an elementary-aged child/ children and are currently visiting or residing in Rumoi City, then this place is definitely a place where you should bring your kids. In this age where children spend more time online than with other children, Chairumo gives the opportunity for kids to socialize and be more physically and mentally active. That's why it's highly recommended.
Getting to Chairumo
Chairumo is just beside the Rumoi Roadside Station. This means that you have a wide space for parking in case you came by car.
If you are commuting, ride the Horonobe Rumoi Line of the Engan Bus and board down at the Funaba Koen Mae bus stop.
If you're coming in by train, despite being literally behind the train station, Chairumo is still about 10-15 minutes away on foot from Rumoi Station.
