40cm reflecting telescope - Pikari

When you head up to the second floor, there is a reading area, a small play area for kids, and the Misora Astronomical Observatory. Inside the observatory, you'd find the 40cm reflecting telescope. The telescope was given the nickname Pikari by the elementary and junior high school students of Biei. This telescope is powerful enough to see stars even during the day.

Misora Museum and Observatory holds numerous events throughout the year. Please do check out their 👉website👈.

Reading books at the 2F learning area of the museum

My family and I visited Misora Museum and Observatory last June 25, 2022, which was my 236th day here in Japan as an Assistant Language Teacher under the JET Programme. What I liked about this visit was that we learned something about the history and nature of Biei Town. However, since the museum area was small, we explored it in less than 20 minutes.

Misora Museum and Observatory Admission Fee:

It's FREE to enter and explore the museum area. However, you need to pay 200 yen for adults but Biei residents and Biei High School students can enter the Astronomical Observatory for FREE

Misora Museum and Observatory Operating Hours:

Misora Museum and Observatory is open from 10AM - 7PM. It's closed on Tuesday and the New Year's Holiday.

Why visit the Misora Museum and Observatory?

Misora Museum and Observatory can easily be reached on foot from Biei JR Station. This means it is one of the places that you can easily visit if you are on a quick tour. Lastly, this place will give you a glimpse of the past and maybe the intergalactic future too.
