Japan Diaries 4: Week 37
Week 37: July 11 - 15, 2022
Day 252: July 11, 2022
Monday - Special Rest Day 1
Good morning everyone! It's a beautiful sunny day today. However, since the teachers of Rumoi High School reported for work last weekend, we were given 2 days of yasumi (holiday). I decided to rest at home the whole morning.
Rest doesn't mean sleep for me though, I spent it editing photos and articles for my The Backpack Adventures. I also binge-watched Season 4 of Stranger Things.
When Ella got back home that afternoon, my family and I headed out and walked to Golden Beach Rumoi. It was Ella who requested this as we weren't able to have a family day last weekend.
When we got to the beach, Ella immediately went to make sand castles and play in the sand. My wife and I spent this moment reflecting and enjoying the scenery.
We left Golden Beach Rumoi a little after 6PM. We looked for a place to eat dinner and ended up at Curry Taisho at Omachi in Rumoi City. This curry restaurant is probably one of the best of its kind here in the city. I highly recommend the katsu curry. You have the option to make it spicy. What I love about Curry Taisho (カレー大将) is that they are really generous with the servings and the taste is fantastic 😋😋😋.
We were actually super full and tired when we got home so we decided to wrap up our day early as KC will have her pregnancy check-up tomorrow with Ikuko-san and Ella still has to go to school. So, see you guys!
Day 253: July 12, 2022
Tuesday - Special Rest Day 2
It's another beautiful morning here in Rumoi. It's the second day of our yasumi. After breakfast, I headed to the Rumoi Police Station to apply for the Shako Shomeisho or Parking Certificate.
The policemen there were really patient and helpful as it took me some explain to them what I need as I speak little Japanese. Regardless, I got the information I needed and the paperwork that goes with it.
When I got home, I waited for my wife's updates regarding her check-up. Sadly, when my wife came back home she broke the devastating news. It was a failed pregnancy 😭😭😭. She wasn't in the mood to go out.
That afternoon, I went to COOP alone to buy needed groceries and food for us. I didn't stay long as I wanted to be with my wife during these terrible times.
That evening before going to bed, we called my mom to tell her about my wife's miscarriage and also to find out how they were. Overall, today probably is the saddest day for my family. 😭 There is nothing we can do for this one but to pray and keep trying.
Day 254: July 13, 2022
Wednesday - Embetsu
Woke up to a rainy morning. Today, I'm heading to Embetsu Agricultural High School. This visit is my 10th for the school year 2022 - 2023. For this trip, I used my 2-day skip Moekko Free Ticket.
Here's my workload today:
3rd period - Listening Activity @3rd year of Sasaki-sensei
Day 255: July 14, 2022
Thursday - Rumoi
It's a humid morning. Today, I'm back at Rumoi High School as I don't have any visiting school schedule today.
Here's my workload today:
6th period - Directions @ 1-2 of Ito sensei
I received good news today. Mugi-san went to me to tell me that she finally passed the Eiken Grade 1. This news made me feel ecstatic as I have trained Mugi-san since January. This is probably big news for Rumoi High School and the whole city as she is probably the youngest Grade 1 Eiken passer in the history of Rumoi City.
I also got the paperwork for plotting my visit to schools for the months of August to March next year. After classes, I had the weekly English Club meeting with my students. We talked about the English contests that we'd join.
That night, my family and I went to Sukiya for dinner. In a way, I want to celebrate Mugi's success with my family too. Overall, today was an amazing day filled with good news.
Day 256: July 15, 2022
Friday - Tomamae
It's a sunny Friday morning. Today, I'm heading to Tomamae Commercial High School. It's my 12th visit for the school year 2022 - 2023. For this visit, I used my 2-day Skip Free Moekko Ticket.
We didn't have classes today but we spent time in the gym.

First, we had the formal farewell address from Guy and then messages from the principal and the students.
Then we watched the students practice the traditional yochore dance and some other modern dances for the school's school festival tomorrow.
When I got back home, I got the paperwork from Rumoi High School and used it to apply for the Parking Certificate at the Rumoi Police Station. The file will be available next week. That night, Guy came to deliver the car to us. We named it Ruru after Rurumoppe which was the old name of Rumoi City.
Overall, I'm looking forward to this weekend as Rumoi will be celebrating the Rumoi Festival. Aside from that, my family and I are also planning to visit and explore the town of Haboro.
I want to try Curry Taisho in Rumoi City. Your meal looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteIt was! Please do try Curry Taisho if you get to visit Rumoi City.
