Akaigawa (赤井川村) is a village in the Shirebeshi Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. The name of the village is derived from the Ainu word "Fure Bet" (red river) which is translated into Japanese.

For those planning to visit Akaigawa to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Akaigawa:


Akaigawa Manhole Covers

1. Take a picture of the manhole covers of Akaigawa. So far, I have seen 2 unique manhole covers. These are common and can be seen around the village. There are also colored versions of these manhole covers, which can be found along Route 36.


Akaigawa Pokemon Manhole Cover

2. Take a picture of the Akaigawa Pokemon Manhole Cover featuring the Alolan Vulpix, Vanillite, and Hatenna. It is located outside the Akaigawa Roadside Station.


Akaigawa Shrine

3. Visit the Akaigawa Shrine. You can pay your respects and offer prayers here any time of the day. You can also get a goshuin here.


Akaigawa Roadside Station

4. Visit the Akaigawa Roadside Station and buy products that are produced or made in the town. You can also get the roadside station stamp here for the Hokkaido Stamp rally booklet.


5. Attend the Akaigawa Scenic Night event held every late February. About 2,000 snow candles will be set up in various places in the village with the cooperation of residents and businesses, and the lights will be lit. There are also unique winter activities that can be done in the village proper.


Akaigawa Caldera Hot Spring and Recreation Center

6. Take a dip at the onsen of Akaigawa Caldera Hot Spring and Recreation Center (赤井川カルデラ温泉・保養センター). They accept day trip bathers and the price is very affordable.


Aris Farm

7. Go blueberry picking at Aris Farm during the harvest season (late July to late August). They also sell jams and other products here.


Akaigawa Tomo Camping Ground

8. Pitch a tent and camp overnight at the Visitor Centre at Akaigawa Tomo Camping Ground. It costs 1200 yen. The place is well-maintained and is near a river so it’s quite scenic.


Mt. Yoichi

9. Hike Mt. Yoichi. You can ride the Asaridake Panorama Gondola and hike the remainder of the way. The mountain has a scenic view of eastern Akaigawa. 


Caldera Observatory

10. Make a stopover at Caldera Observatory on the northern outskirts of town. It presents a panoramic view of the village of Akaigawa. The road is usually closed in winter, making it an ideal place to snowshoe in late winter.

Located in Rosario in the province of Cavite, Casa Hacienda de Tejeros is famously known as the location of the historic Tejeros Convention of 1897. Agusan Del Sur: Bunawan Ecopark and Wildlife Reservation Center

Found in Barangay Consuelo, Bunawan in the province of Agusan Del Sur, Bunawan Ecopark and Wildlife Reservation Center became famous for its world known centerpiece exhibit. Bunawan arc That exhibit is named Lolong , the world's longest salt water crocodile ever caught. Lolong was captured in Bunawan Creek, a part of the vast Agusan Marsh on September 3, 2011.
