Going up to Atsuta Park Observation Deck from Ishikari Roadside Station

After several minutes of hiking up the hill, this is the first thing that you'd see.

The observatory is designed like a European castle wall and blends in harmoniously with the surrounding mountains. The Oath Bell and a fence for attaching padlocks, also known as love locks, are added attractions that make the place even more special. The Oath Bell denotes a promise made by couples, and the fence is for sealing their love, hoping that their relationship stays strong and doesn't waver.

Team Nicerio visits Atsuta Park Observation Deck

My family and I visited the Atsuta Park Observation Deck during our Mashike – Ishikari Road Trip last September 4, 2022. It was my 307th day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. Since we arrived early at Ishikari Roadside Station and we won’t be able to get the roadside station stamp for our collection, my daughter, and I hiked the hill behind it to check out Atsuta Park Observation Deck, also known as the Lover's Sanctuary to kill time. We were surprised by how beautiful the view is from the castle-like structure. We enjoyed a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan and the Atsuta War on this clear, sunny day. Overall, it was a tiring yet unforgettable mini-adventure for both of us.
