Founded in 1892 by Munenori Shimizu, a Saitama immigrant, the shrine stands as a testament to the deep connection with his hometown's guardian deity, Hirose Okami.

Initially constructed by Tatsuhachi Tanaka, one of the immigrants, the temple was further expanded in December 1893, when Ichizo Shimizu assumed the role of founder. With generous donations from volunteers, he built the worship hall. Though the precinct land was originally donated by Munenori Shimizu, it was subsequently transferred to Shin Ukichi, who officially donated it in September 1903.

Years later, in July 1917, an awe-inspiring event marked the completion of the shrine. Celebrating its 100th anniversary in 1991, the shrine received a momentous makeover, thanks to a significant donation of approximately 100 million yen. This substantial contribution allowed for the construction of a new shrine office spanning 120 tsubos, the paving of a spacious parking lot accommodating around 70 cars, as well as the restoration of the shrine building itself. It was a testament to the dedication and collaboration of the parishioners who worked tirelessly to bring Naie Shrine to its current splendor.

Team Nicerio visit Naie Shrine

My family and I visited Naie Shrine for the first time last September 11, 2022, as part of our September 9-11 Road Trip. It was my 314th day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. We visited Naie Shrine as part of our tradition of going to the main shrines of a municipality that we visited for the first time. During our visit, we offered a prayer and also made some wishes.
