Monday - Respect for the Aged Day / 9.17-19 Family Road Trip D3
Today is Respect of the Aged Day (敬老の日) here in Japan. It's a public holiday and it's also the 3rd and last day of our September 17-19 Family Road Trip.
For today's itinerary, we'll first be exploring Abashiri City before driving back home and visiting the towns and cities along the way.
These are the places that we visited in Abashiri City:

Abashiri Shrine (網走神社) |
⭕ Mcdonald's Abashiri

Our next stop is the town of Bihoro (美幌町). These are the places that we visited in Bihoro:
We didn't stay long in Bihoro as my wife is really looking forward to visiting 2nd Street in Kitami City (北見市) which is our next destination. These are the places that we visited in Kitami City:
Kitami Shrine (北見神社) |
🟇 Kitaozan Manabuho Temple
From there, we proceeded to 2nd Street Kitami (セカンドストリート北見店). We shopped there for about an hour before continuing our trip home. Before leaving Kitami, we visited the following places:
Roadside Rest Area "Onneyu Onsen" (道の駅 おんねゆ温泉) |
🟈 Karakuri Cuckoo Clock Tower
Northern Daichi Aquarium (北の大地の水族館) |
It was another 3-hour drive to reach Rumoi City from where we are. Everything was alright until it started to rain hard. To make matters worse, we were in an area on top of a mountain, and at times the visibility turned bad because of the thick fog and the rain.
My wife and I were both mentally and physically exhausted from that experience. Not to mention, we were also hungry. My wife requested that we try UOBEI Asahikawa Nagayama (魚べい 旭川永山店). It's a popular conveyor belt sushi in Asahikawa City. I happily obliged of course.

Regrettably, the inclement weather persisted as we made our way back from Asahikawa City. Fortunately, we arrived home unscathed, completing our three-day family road trip from September 17th to 19th, with a safe return by around 11 PM.

Friday - Autumn Equinox
It's another public holiday here in Japan today. The country is observing the Autumn Equinox Day (秋分の日).
Unfortunately, our plans for today had to be canceled due to the persistent heavy rainfall, as predicted. To make matters worse, I'm also not feeling my best.
However, we made the most of the day by taking the opportunity to rest and meticulously plan our upcoming two-day road trip, which is now rescheduled for tomorrow. I had to make significant adjustments to our itinerary due to the expected scattered showers. Still, I've crafted a fantastic plan that will allow us to explore two cities and four charming towns here in Hokkaido.
This work week has been quite short for me, as I only had three days of work. During these days, I visited Rumoi High School, Haboro High School, and Embetsu Agricultural High School, which was a fulfilling experience. The Autumn Equinox Day also provided a much-needed break for some well-deserved rest. Now, it's time for me to turn in early to prepare for tomorrow's adventure. See you all then!
