The Northern Daichi Aquarium stands out from other facilities by addressing an issue commonly faced by fish in captivity. As most fish grow, their appearance often deteriorates due to skin diseases and other related problems. However, at this aquarium, the staff takes special care of the fish by raising them in a facility that utilizes Onneyu Onsenkyo's cold springs, also known as "magic hot spring water." This unique practice maintains the health and vitality of the fish, ensuring visitors get to witness tropical fish that have grown to be exceptionally large and beautiful.

My family and I visited the Northern Daichi Aquarium for the first time last September 19, 2022, which was the last day of our September 17-19 Road Trip. It was my 322nd day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. It was the last destination that we visited during our 3-day road trip. Although the aquarium is smaller than most of the aquariums that we have visited all around Japan, my family and I still enjoyed watching the freshwater fishes, particularly in the waterfall basin tank which is said to be the first in Japan. Aside from that, we also enjoyed the interactive tank where the fish “cleaned” our hands.
