Nayoro (名寄市) is a city in the Kamikawa Subprefecture of Hokkaido, Japan. Nayoro got its name from the Ainu words Nay Oro which means “in the middle of the valley”.

1. Take a picture of the manhole covers of Nayoro City. So far, I have seen 2 unique manhole covers. It is commonly seen around the city.

2. Visit the Nayoro Shrine (名寄神社). It’s the main shrine of the city of Nayoro. You can pay your respects and offer prayers here any time of the day. Don’t forget to avail of the shrine’s goshuin if you collect them.

3. Buy and eat Nayoro’s daifuku. It’s one of the Nayoro’s special products. You can buy various flavors at the roadside station. There is even a Daifuku vending machine there.

4. Visit Nayoro Roadside Station, formally called Roadside Station Mochigome-no-sato Nayoro (道の駅 もち米の里・なよろ). You can buy produce and souvenirs harvested or made in Nayoro. The special product of Nayoro, which is the mochi, is also sold here. If you collect roadside station stamps then this place is a must-visit.

5. Take a refreshing dip at Nayoro Onsen Sunpillar (なよろ温泉サンピラー). You may choose to avail of the day trip onsen (500 yen per adult) or stay overnight for a longer bathing experience.

6. Visit Nayoro City Kitaguni Museum (名寄市北国博物館) and learn about the rich history of the city. There is even a bird-watching area inside the museum worth checking out.

7. Eat delicious ramen at Kamekin Shokudo (亀きん食堂). This small ramen restaurant offers various ramen flavors to choose from like lamb ramen and even cheese ramen.

8. Pitch a tent and stay overnight at Tomutebunkanomori Camping Ground (トムテ文化の森キャンプ場). You can pitch your tent on the open grounds or in the forested area. Regardless of where you choose to camp, each has its beauty that you should experience.

9. View the stars using the “Pirika Telescope” of Nayoro Observatory Kitasubaru (なよろ市立天文台 きたすばる). It has the second-largest lens in Japan to date. If you’re interested in celestial bodies then you should come visit. Aside from the giant telescope, you will also see space-related displays inside this facility.

10. Enjoy a relaxing stroll around Nayoro Park (名寄公園). The park has a scenic mini-lake which you can explore when you rent a swan boat. You can also see the preserved Snow Removal Train “Kimaroki” (ＳＬ排雪列車「キマロキ」) displayed at the western edge of the park.

Located in Barangay San Pedro in Sto. Tomas in the province of Batangas, the National Shrine of St. Padre Pio is a pilgrimage site dedicated and inspired by Saint Padre Pio.
