Japan Diaries 4: Week 49
Week 49: October 3-7, 2022
Day 336: October 3, 2022
Monday – Quarantine Day 3
It’s the 3rd day of our 7-day quarantine. Like in the first two days, we spent it doing individual tasks to lessen if not avoid interactions and physical contact. Here's my breakfast for today. Yum! |
I spent the morning utilizing the VLJ Course to study Japanese. Following that, I researched and made itineraries for future road trips. After that, I continued writing articles on my blog because I had so many backlogs to catch up on. My daughter, on the other hand, read books and practiced writing kanji.
Ella's 3rd day of quarantine |
That afternoon, my wife cut my hair which saved me more than 3000 yen worth of haircut. This will be added to our travel funds this weekend.
Before sleeping, we watched Detective Conan Episode 992 – Murder at the Townhouse Café. It has been a while since we last watched our favorite anime and it brought back good memories. I remember that whenever my wife and I would watch Detective Conan, we always ended up talking about how we wished to live in Japan.
Overall, Ella’s been doing well so we aren’t worried anymore. Hopefully, she gets better so we can head out this weekend as we all miss going on road trips.
Day 337: October 4, 2022
Tuesday – Quarantine Day 4
It’s the 4th day of our 7-day quarantine. I was woken by a warning message from the Fire and Disaster Management Agency Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications informing everyone that North Korea launched a ballistic missile towards Hokkaido and Aomori Prefecture.Way to start the day... |
I checked outside to see if I could see the missile. 🤣🤣 |

My wife and I were about to panic as we didn’t know what to do and what to expect from it. Even the Hokkaido ALT LINE group was buzzing with messages from the ALTs in different towns and cities. Thankfully, another message was sent after 20 minutes informing everyone that the threat was over and the missile passed Hokkaido landing somewhere in the Pacific Ocean.
... and here's my lunch |

When we got back home, Matsuda-sensei called me to inform me that the Driver’s License application was already scheduled for October 24 (Monday). He also explained to me the process and the paperwork that I needed to bring with me. What made my day was when he said that he’d be accompanying me on this trip so that I would have an interpreter. I was thankful to him for that.
Movie for the night: Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore |
Before sleeping, we binge-watched several episodes of Detective Conan, and to cap it off, we watched the film Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore.
Overall, today is a day well spent.
