My family and I visited Kairaku Park for the first time last October 8, 2022, the first day of our “October 8-10" Road Trip. It was my 341st day in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. It was a scenic place and also a great place to set up camp. However, we didn’t bring out camping gear as we are heading south to Noboribetsu and we have already booked our accommodations. Regardless, we enjoyed strolling around the park. Hopefully, we get to camp here next time.   


Kairaku Park Fees

It’s FREE to visit and explore Kairaku Park. However, you need to pay fees if you want to use various facilities. 

Camping – 1 tent / 1,000 yen per night

Pedal boat rental – 30 minutes / 500 yen

Rowing boat rental – 30 minutes / 300 yen

Bicycle rental – 30 minutes / 300 yen

BBQ corner – 100 yen per person 


Kairaku Park Operating Hours

Kairaku Park is open 24/7. However, it’s closed every winter. Please check this website if you want to see updates about its operating period. (https://kairakukoen.com/about/) 

If you plan to use its facilities, here are the operating hours of the Kairaku Park Administration Office:

Reception hours 9:00-17:30 

Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (December 31st – January 5th)

BBQ Corner: 9 AM – 8 PM

Getting to Kairaku Park

 

From Sapporo Station, ride the Local Takikawa train of the JR Hakodate Line. Board down at Iwamizawa Station. Walk to the Iwamizawa Terminal and look for Platform 6.

Ride the 21 Tsukigata Sen bus and board down at the Shinsei (Tsukigatacho) bus stop. From there, Kairaku Park is 750 meters away. 

Travel time: 1 hour and 41 minutes

Fare: 1,750 yen
