The permanent exhibition is organized into six thematic sections, each offering a unique perspective on Bibai's history:

Bibai's Natural Heritage and Ancient Inhabitants: Set against the backdrop of Bibai's lush primeval forest, this section showcases stuffed animals, insect specimens, pottery, stone tools, and fossils unearthed from the Minenobe ruins, offering insights into Bibai's prehistoric inhabitants and natural environment.

Tsuchioto: The Era of Development: Explore the pioneering efforts of individuals like Takeshiro Matsuura and Toshiyoshi Takahata, whose research and initiatives paved the way for Bibai's development. Through panels and dioramas, learn about the coal exploitation endeavors and the dawn of Bibai as a burgeoning city.

Exhibits feature materials related to land improvement, agricultural equipment, and reconstructed pioneer-era houses, offering a glimpse into Bibai's agrarian roots.

Coal Mining and Industrial Evolution: Step into a recreated coal mine, once the backbone of Bibai's economy, and witness the evolution of coal mining techniques from the Meiji to Showa eras. Notable displays include a 3.5-ton coal pillar and a diorama of Tokiwadai Station, showcasing the city's industrial heritage.

Life, Culture, and Economy: Experience the changing landscape of Bibai's social and economic fabric through exhibits like the "Numagai General Store," photographs depicting street scenes across different eras, and artifacts reflecting shifts in education, daily life, and commerce.

Last November 3, 2022, my family and I embarked on a "Culture Trip" Road Trip and had the pleasure of visiting Bibai Local History Museum for the very first time. This marked my 367th day in Japan as an ALT participating in the JET Programme. It was our first stop for the day. My family and I learned a lot about the history of the city. I was particularly interested in the coal mine era of the city and the recreation of the Numagai General Store.
