Day 387: November 23, 2022
Wednesday – Labor Thanksgiving Day
It’s a very cold but surprisingly sunny day here in Rumoi City (留萌市). It also happens to be Labor Thanksgiving Day which is a public holiday here in Japan. This only means one thing… It’s another opportunity for #TeamNicerio to travel. For today’s road trip, we decided to drive around Rumoi City.

JR Rumoi Station |

We took a lot of pictures with the Kazumo-chan standee |

JR Rumoi Station's anniversary |
|
According to some locals, this might be the last anniversary of JR Rumoi Station as it will close down next year |

I'm happy to see that there are still some people who use the Rumoi Line |
Our first stop for the day was JR Rumoi Station. I read from the Rumoi City website that there is an anniversary event being held at the station. Since this seems to be the last anniversary before the train line closes down, we made sure to attend it. It wasn’t a party though but there were exhibits commemorating the history of the station. We took photos and checked out the exhibits before heading to our next destination which was Rumoi City Library.
We visited Rumoi City Library to read some books and also kill time as we wanted to watch the sunset but didn’t want to stay in the cold outdoors for an extended period.
From there, we headed to Golden Beach Rumoi where my wife showed me some tips about what she learned from the driving school in the Philippines. I would say that even if I have been driving longer than her, I still learned a thing or two from what she shared.
|
It's onsen time! |
From there, we drove south to Mashike (増毛町) to try out the onsen at Iwao Hot Springs Attamaru. Heads up for those who plan to visit, the water here of the onsen is hotter than usual. You might or might not enjoy it.

Driving back home to Rumoi City via Route 231 |
|
Special dinner celebration at Midou |
After enjoying the beautiful sunset, we drove back to Rumoi City. Before going back home, I decided to celebrate Labor Thanksgiving Day and my employment here in Rumoi City as an ALT by having a special dinner.

Our 9-course meal |

Team Nicerio at Midou |
We went to Midou and tried out the 9-course meal that they offer. I already had this during my birthday last year but I wanted my wife and daughter to experience it as well.
To sum up our experience, we all enjoyed the feast.
|
My wife was so tired from driving that she fell asleep right after we got home |
When we got back home, we were too full to do anything else so we called it a day. That wraps up my 387th day here in Japan as an ALT under the JET Programme. See you at work tomorrow!
