Weekend 59: December 17 – 18, 2022

Day 411: December 17, 2022

Saturday – Rumoi

We left our bed a bit late today as we enjoyed its warmth. Had it not been for Ella’s school requirements we won’t leave home.

After purchasing Ella's winter clothing from DCM (formerly Homac), we strolled over to Maxvalu to get some groceries. Moreover, I purchased the seasonal Daifuku KitKat flavor.

After that, we purchased a touyou (kerosene) refill from Serufu Rumoi in Motokawacho before returning home to drop off our goods. We then continued on our way to Rumoi City Library for our weekly weekend library trip. We ate one of the parfaits that we bought at MaxValu. Thankfully, there is an area in the library where you can eat food.

Dinner with Rita and Mate
I met Rita and Mate for the first time

Right after the library closed, we drove to Koraikan to hang out with KC’s Hungarian friend Rita and her husband Mate. It was my first time meeting them. We had an awesome time talking about our countries and life in Rumoi and we were all close friends by the end of the day we were all close friends. Because we were having so much fun, we didn’t notice the time. We only found out about it when we were informed by the staff that they’d be closing down for the day.

Kiss the Girls 1997
Movie night: Kiss the Girls (1997)

After bidding our friends farewell, we went straight home but instead of calling it a day, we watched the 1997 psychological thriller Kiss the Girls. It was an excellent movie that I thought was worth seeing.

Day 412: December 18, 2022

Sunday – Rumoi

It’s a -8-degree morning here in Rumoi City. Unlike yesterday, we didn’t have any plans for today so we got the opportunity to stay in our beds longer.

We got up at around noon. We spent most of the day studying Japanese. In a way, I got way too competitive as I managed to take the top spot for the Diamond League this week in Duolingo. It`s my 2nd time to achieve this feat. The first one was years ago when I was still studying Spanish.

Thanks, Soledad!

Aside from my Duolingo accomplishment, we didn't do anything unique today. We called it a day at around 8 PM.

Overall, we were not able to visit any new destinations this weekend but on the good side, we got to hang out with our new friends which I think is a very important thing.
