Sennan (泉南市) is the city of Osaka Prefecture, Japan. Sennan City was founded on April 1, 1889, and became a city on July 1, 1970. The city is historically known as a fishing town however, when Kansai International Airport was built, the city became known as one of the transportation hubs of the region. The kanji used for its name sen or izumi (泉) means spring or fountain and nan or minami (南) means south.
For those planning to visit the city to check what it has to offer, here are the 10 Things to Do in Sennan City:

1. Take a picture of the manhole cover of Sennan City. So far, I have seen 1 unique manhole cover. It is common around the city.

2. Visit the ruins of Kaieji (海会寺跡). It’s a historic temple founded by Prince Shotoku. There is nothing much to see and do here though but there are several shrines in the vicinity worth checking out.

3. Play golf or practice hitting golf balls at one of the many golf courses and golf driving ranges in the city.

4. Check out the artifacts on display at the Ancient History Museum / Sennan City Buried Cultural Property Center (泉南市埋蔵文化財センター). This museum is located near the ruins of Kaieji so you could visit both in one go. Although it’s free admission, keep in mind that this museum is closed during the weekends.

5. Eat at Kaisen Sushi Kijuro (廻鮮鮨 喜十郎). It is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant that serves good quality sushi. That’s why it’s not a surprise that this place is often full. Time your visit and avoid the usual lunch or dinner time. However, keep in mind that the store closes at 9:30 PM.

6. Admire the beauty of the hundreds of roses in full bloom at Hanasaki Farm English Rose Garden also called David Austin Roses English Rose Garden (デビッド·オースチン·ロージズ イングリッシュローズガーデン). Admission is free. The best time to visit is around late March to June.

7. Visit the Chinu Shrine (茅渟神社). This shrine is popular with black sea bream/chinook fishermen as they would often go here to offer prayers for a good catch. It’s not a surprise as the shrine has numerous statues of the fish in its grounds. Also, don’t forget to avail of the shrine’s goshuin if you are collecting them.

8. Visit Chokeiji (長慶寺). Many dub This temple the hydrangea temple because of the hundreds of hydrangea plants that bloom on the temple grounds. The best time to visit is in June. Also, don’t forget to avail of the temple’s goshuin if you are collecting them.

9. Enjoy the scenery while strolling at Sennan Marble Beach (泉南マーブルビーチ). The marbles on the beach make it a unique sight. This long stretch of beach actually connects to Sennan Long Park so you can visit both scenic places in one day.

10. Stroll at Sennan Long Park also called Sennan Rinku Park (泉南りんくう公園). This place is a perfect destination to stroll around and enjoy the sea breeze without going far from the city. There are some restaurants and coffee shops here where you can dine while enjoying the view of the sea. Recently, it’s been selected as one of the 100 best subsets in Japan.
